Here Kitty Kitty

By Guest Author: Tracy Lyn Moland

“Here kitty kitty ”… he hollered out into the night. Oh what was he to do now, he thought to himself. The cat had gotten out and he was not sure if it should be out or not. He did not even know its name. At least the dog went out for a potty break he thought, but there was snow on the ground and he was worried about the cat.

“The dog is growling at me, he won’t move, he is running away from me, you know that cat that we wouldn’t see – I just saw it, the dog is still growling, what should I do?”

My husband repeatedly called me while helping with my pet sitting business. However, this as it may seem, was not a series of sittings but one. It started with me arriving to get the information on the four dogs that usually went to a kennel but for one night, they decided to try pet sitting. I got all the information on the dogs including the one that may not be so friendly – the white one. As I was about to leave, I noticed a new box of cat litter sitting by the door. I casually asked, “You don’t have cats do you?”

The reply, “Oh, you don’t have to worry about them, they will be fine.”

Them I thought – hmmm, this sound like you needs to know information. “How many do you have?” Two was the reply. Hmmm I again thought, I should be charging more! However, it was only one night!

Therefore, I came in the afternoon of the first day to walk the dogs. The white one was completely fine but a little Pomeranian seemed very stubborn – including peeing on the couch, which had been covered in layers of clothes and blankets. More need to know information I wondered. I finally got the four together and headed out the door for a short walk. The dogs obviously were not walked regularly – at least not together. They kept tripping over each other, tangling the leashes and trying to relieve themselves on each other.

For the late night potty break, I convinced my assistant (husband) to head over and let them out. It had started to snow a bit that evening – very uncharacteristic for that time of year. When he arrived, the Pomeranian seemed very snotty. It would not go out, would not respond and every time he got near it growled or tried to bite him. Finally, it went and hid in the basement. He kept calling and asking what to do. Finally, he used the leash to get the dog near enough to him to get it out for a potty break. By this point, he had been there for well over an hour. As he was, trying to get the dog back in – it would not come in if it could see him – the cat ran out. Now she had not told us the name nor enough details about if it was allowed out at night so he panicked – especially with the snow.

After calling and calling him for another hour, I finally convinced him to come home. I woke up at 6:00 am to no husband. Sure enough, he came home after midnight but could not sleep so headed over first thing in the morning. The growling Pomeranian and no cat greeted him. He hung around for a bit and when he was about to leave heard a scratching at the door – the cat was back! Whew…

A few weeks later, I was on a local pet website and guess who the pet of the month was - The growling Pomeranian… I sent the link to my husband and I am sure he cried!
