Maine Coon Cat Breed Profile
Temperament: Amiable, amusing, loving, an ideal domestic pet. Maine Coons are capable mousers and hunters though rugged and agile.
Care: Requires daily grooming due to the thick coat, prevents tangles.
General Information: Maine Coons were well established more than a century ago as a hardy, handsome breed of domestic cat, well equipped to survive hostile New England winters.
The Maine Coon is well known for its great intelligence, loving nature and kind disposition. They are especially good with children and dogs making this breed one of the most popular, sought after companion.
This domestic cat is one of the largest of cat breeds they can grow to be rather large; it is not unusual to find males who weigh over twenty pounds. Female Maine Coon’s are generally smaller than males, although still considerably larger than the average cat.
It has a large muscular body, more so than most longhaired breeds. The legs are solid, rounded and of medium length. The Maine Coon has a shiny, thick coat that is long and shaggy.
They come in several colors and patterns, most popularly tabby, solid, and bi-color, the most common being the classic brown tabby. They have a minimal undercoat although enough to allow this breed to tolerate a cooler climate.
