Persian Cat Breed Profile
Temperament: Intelligent, playful and gentle, a very affectionate and devoted family pet. Persians seek a lot of attention. A skilled mouser, but well suited to indoor life.
Care: Persians require daily grooming with a metal-toothed comb or a natural bristle brush. They shed year round and the dead hair must be combed or brushed out to avoid hairballs and matting.
General Information: Originally called a Longhair, the Persian originated back in the early 1600's in Europe. It has been documented as the first registered and shown cat breed. The Persian breed is the most popular of cat breeds in the United States today. The Persian cats of today are the result of breeding the Angora and the Maine Coon.
Medium to large in size, the body is stocky and wide sitting low on its legs. The legs are heavily boned, short and straight. The coat is very thick and can be as much a 5 inches long.
While Persians are perfectly happy to entertain themselves, he loves to be pet and shown a lot of love and attention. Creatures of habit, they are most at home in an atmosphere of security, love and reassurance. They can easily adapt to the most boisterous of households, this breed makes a joyful family pet.
