Sphynx Cat Breed Profile

Temperament: Sphynx are lively, personable cats. They fit well into active, multi-pet, family households. They are intelligent, alert creatures.

Care: The Syphynx is an indoor only pet, as their hairless skin will sunburn if exposed, unprotected. Temperature comfort levels are basically the same as for a human child. A simple Bath is required weekly due to oils in the skin.

General Information: In 1966 a domestic cat gave birth to a hairless kitten in Toronto, Canada. It was discovered to be a natural mutation and the Sphynx cat, as we know it today, came into existence.

The Sphynx are a medium sized cat breed with a round belly, sturdy bones, and good muscular structure. The ears are very large, giving them an almost bat-like look. Their legs are long, ending in toes that are also long and agile.

The paw pads are thicker than with most other breeds, giving the appearance of walking on air. The skin is wrinkled, chamois-like and very warm to the human touch.

This breed is adaptable to most households, pets and climates as long as affection and indoor care are provided. This breed of cat is rare and most breeders have a waiting list for their litters.
