Basset Hound Dog Breed Profile

General Appearance: Basset hounds are generally black, white and tan. Their coat is hard, smooth, short and dense. They are short, stocky dogs. Minimal grooming is needed due to their fur being short and dense.

Origin: Great Britain - The French word "basset" means "low set".

Temperament: Basset Hounds are independent, good natured, sociable, gentle creatures that love to be close to their owners and will happily keep you company at your side. They make a great family pet and are very loving and nurturing with children.

Weight: 40-60 lbs.

Life Span: 10-12 years

Health Conditions/Concerns: Basset Hounds are prone to bloat and dysplasia.
