Happy Valentine’s Day – A Horse Story…

By Guest Author: Tracy Lyn Moland

Sonny where are you? Sonny? As I was wandering the field looking for Sonny the pony – do you realize that pony only means small horse not young horse – I was grateful for the full moon? That is, until the coyotes started to howl. I could not believe that I was walking back and forth over a few acres of land looking for Sonny. I truly hoped I would find him alive and well and that the coyotes were not that close by.

In my mind, I pictured my husband waiting at home with a movie and a hug. It was Valentines and we traditionally had a pub night – at home. We would play darts, listen to music and go to a movie in our basement. It was our way of celebrating Valentine’s now that we had children. However, this one was different.

I was running a very successful errand and concierge business and one of my clients needed someone on occasion to come in and feed her horses a late night meal. A few of the horses were older than I was and needed an extra meal each day. The stable assistants worked normal hours so I came in. I had been there many times including Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New Year’s Day and now Valentine’s.

Finally, I found Sonny. He just had not noticed the other seven horses go in to eat. In relief, I brought him in and finished the night. I called my husband who was very worried at this point and headed home!

We gave each other a hug and were off to bed! Our pub night would have to wait, as Sonny was my lucky date that year!
