Clydesdale Horse Breed Profile
Origin: The valley of the Clyde River, in Lanark shire, Scotland, is the original home of the Clydesdale.
Appearance: They Clydesdale is one of the world's largest horse breeds. Despite his size he is an active horse with clean, bright movement, and a mild mannered temperament. They are well built horses, muscular and powerfully vigorous.
The most common colors are bay and brown, usually with a white face or 'blaze', and a lot of white on the lower legs. One of the Clydesdale's most distinctive characteristics is the extensive, silky feathering on the legs. The cascading, flowing movement as the Clydesdale moves, is one of the breed's most attractive features.
General Info: The majority of Clydesdales throughout the world today are kept for breeding and showing; they do not have to work for their living any more. However they are also a draught animal, designed to pull heavy loads, especially carts and ploughs.
Increasing in popularity, today the Clydesdales are being ridden, just like any other breed of horse. They can be seen occasionally on the dressage arena or taking part in endurance rides.
