Origin: Born in 1789, Justin Morgan started life as a small, rough-coated colt known as “Figure”. Figure came to be named after one of his owners - Justin Morgan. The ancestry for this breed is uncertain.
Appearance: The Morgan horse has a medium sized head; slightly concave face, with a thick neck and deep chest. His shoulders are deep and strong with a short, broad back and high set tail with a full mane. His legs are set square, short and strong.
This breed is most commonly black, brown, bay or chestnut with some white markings. With an average height of 14.1 - 15 hands high.
General Info: The personality of the Morgan horse is good-natured, hard working, intelligent and versatile. They are even tempered yet tough and well spirited. They are also extremely loyal, pleasing creatures.
Popular use of this breed today is most commonly for riding, ranch work, pleasure riding, endurance riding, show, hunting, dressage and the list can certainly go on. Due to their well-mannered temperament and intelligence they are adaptable to most anything you may want or need them to do.
